Chasing the Rainbow

The creative juices have not been flowing lately, and the blogging has been a low priority task.  In an effort to get back into the swing of things, I’m doing another Trifecta Challenge this week.

The word this week is Rainbow. [from the impossibility of reaching the rainbow, at whose foot a pot of gold is said to be buried] :  an illusory goal or hope – See more at: http://www.trifectawritingchallenge.com/#sthash.1g0NpXXd.dpuf

I used both this third definition and the literal one. So here is goes, Chasing the Rainbow.

Did I ever tell you about the time I almost caught the rainbow? After years of hunting, of walking over rough road, of working harder than I’ve ever worked before or since, I had my rainbow in sight. There it was, right in front of my eyes. It glistened, my dream made real.

I was so happy, I began to cry.

As I dried my eyes and reached out my hand, that rainbow disappeared. It was gone, like every other rainbow before it.

I have another rainbow now. It lives on top of my waterfall, always just too far to touch. I like to stand on the shore and watch it in the mists, playing with the idea like a loose tooth. I know, deep in my heart, that I will never get a rainbow. I will never feel those colors on my skin. But when I’m standing there, staring up at it, I can almost feel like I’ve won. I can see myself getting there, grasping it in my hands.

I will never stop looking for my rainbow.
